asked and answered
faq's

  • What is the best season to go?
Any time of year is great! Summer (November to March) is hot and humid, but it’s turtle season—eggs are laid from November to mid-January, and hatchlings emerge mid-January to early March. Winter offers cooler, mild weather and is the perfect time to spot migrating whales along the coastline. Each season has something magical to offer!
  • Are snacks included?
Yes, all meals are freshly prepared by our chefs, and snacks are provided for your walks. Feel free to bring your favorite extras if you’d like!
  • Can you cater to dietary needs?
We do our best to cater to all diets, from vegan to carnivore, and can accommodate allergies or intolerances. Keep in mind we’re in a remote area, so some specialty items might not be available. We may ask you to bring certain small items yourself.
  • What bag is best to take?
A backpack or soft sports bag is ideal. A trolley bag works, but you’ll need to pull it through some sand around the camps. Pack light—think carry-on luggage size for easy transport.
  • What shoes should I wear?
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Some walk the trail barefoot or in flip-flops, though light shoes or sandals that dry quickly are often the best option. Just be mindful of Acacia thorns and hot sand.
  • What drinks do you supply?
We provide a selection of soft drinks (like Fanta, Coke, and tonic) and alcoholic options such as gin, beer, wine, cider, and bubbly. The brands and types may vary depending on availability. If you’d like whiskey or a specific favorite, feel free to bring it along, and we’ll transport it for you.
  • How fit do I need to be? Is there an age restriction?
This trail suits almost everyone, with flexible options like bail-out points on longer days. The distance ranges from 8–19km per day. Our hikers have included people aged 7 to 82, so you’ve got this!
  • Are we sharing rooms?
Bookings are twin-sharing by default. If you’d like your own room, you can book a single supplement as an extra.
  • Are the rooms ensuite?
No, all camps and lodges have shared ablution facilities.
  • Where do we meet?
We meet in Sodwana Bay at 12:30 PM on the first day. Cars can be safely parked in a secure area with 24/7 security. At the end of the trail, we’ll fetch the cars before heading to the final lodge.
  • Is there electricity at the camps?
Some camps run on a generator, providing lights and phone/watches charging. We also have a power bank for charging devices. Hairdryers and air fryers, however, will need to stay at home!
  • Is there phone signal on the trail?
Signal varies. You’ll have good signal for the first two nights, little to none on the third night (except for a “happy spot” if you strike the right pose), and full signal again on the final night.
  • What do I carry during the hike?
Just your daypack! Include essentials like water, sunscreen, snacks, and a light towel or sarong. We’ll transport your main luggage between camps.
